Ummm... Here's a question. If you are a nurse in the doctor's office and answer a call from a patient who says they need doctor authorization for medications, ALL THEIR MEDICATIONS, which they have not had since Thursday night, do you just give the simple answer of: "Sorry, the doctor has left for the day. I'll see what I can do tomorrow?"

That's co-workers, these are doctors. You know, for people with diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure. And most nurses I have met are usually way better than that.

Three months ago I had this convo with my Endo's nurse.

Me: Hi, um, well my sugars are hovering at 450 and I have severe swelling and tingling in my feet.

Her: We can see you in July.

I have to call her at 9am when the office opens, which is also when I am done with work, maybe, or I could go 20 minutes over like today for both me and Bethany. And now I have to change my appointment for my check-up on Friday since i got my work schedule. Unless my car literally turns into a TARDIS, try as I might I cannot make it from Highland Park at 10:30 to Swedish Covenant at 11:00.

Depends....are you getting the actual nurse or the answering service?

Speaking from the perspective of working for a doctors answering service.....if that's who you reached....if we have instructions from that office that they take NO rx calls after hours, our hands are tied. There is nothing we can do but take a message (and sometimes even that, depending on the client). Its not that we don't want to get ahold of the doctor for you, its that we're not ALLOWED to call them for it.

No, his actual staff. She also "just turned off her computer." But they also didn't get the three faxes the pharmacy supposedly sent them: Friday, Saturday and today. It was the nurse/assistant, I recognized the voice.

I did think about if it was the answering service, I do read what you write. That;s why I called during office hours.

That's insane. That is part of why my mom gets new written paper prescriptions every year when she goes in for her checkup.

I'd go in there tomorrow as soon as you can, if you're standing there staring at her that might get her moving faster. And if that doesn't work check your blood standing at her desk and gross her into getting moving ;)

I don't think me checking blood in front of her will ross her out, that's you.

See reply above also.

Well you can also shove the meter in her face and go "SEE? Will you get me my damn meds already?" ;)
