Disclaimer: I do not own Torchwood or the characters therein, they belong to the BBC and RTD. Any original characters and places are my property.
Author's Note: Just doing some character ruminating working on a new story, looking at the episodes again, and this came about. Also, the title is a take on a known essay, just curious if anyone has ever read the original.

Before The Formaldehyde Curtain

He would kill Jack. He would murder him. He would just have to do it over and over again. So be it.

How could his boss, his friend, do such a hideous thing to him. How fucking dare he decide who lived and who died? Who had given that goddamn bastard the right to cheat Fate on his behalf?

Owen would never forgive him. The darkness raged inside him. The darkness was him, fighting to break free, to devour the world. Jack. He would feed first on Jack, only fair, giving the darkness confidence to quell the hunger inside his soul.

But that being isolated made him realize what he had messed up, and maybe try and do something about it. When he realized he had no breath and could not save the old man's life in Dead Man Walking was heartbreaking. He needed something drastic to happen to his life.

Jack wanted to "prepare" him, none of them had any idea it would do that. Well.... maybe Faith....

It was definitely a great arc for the character and great source material for fics. Rewatched end of Exit Wounds again recently and that last conversation with Tosh remains heartbreaking. He was still Owen but yet so much more considerate of her feelings.

You obviously saw the other drabble, that conversation has sparked so much in my mind. Their whole relationship has sparked so much in my mind. He always defended her, even early on. They were together. It just took too long.

Owen was so complex, it was beautiful. Burn Gorman should be proud.
